My name is Coen Bertens, and I worked at the Efteling for 23 years. Now it’s time to share the knowledge and experience I gained. In the first 10 years, I held various positions, including controller park. In the following years, I worked in management positions, with the last 7 years in executive roles. In my final position as park director, I was responsible for technology, operations, and commercial aspects within the park. In this role, I led a team of 2,300 enthusiastic colleagues.
With my understanding of people, guests, and figures, together with my team, we ensured that guests appreciated our colleagues with a rating of 9! In 2019, this outstanding achievement was rewarded with the award for ‘Most Customer-Friendly Company’ in the Netherlands.

During our conversations, we felt a strong connection. We discussed various topics, including motivation, guidance, upbringing, enthusiasm, and customer orientation.
We noticed many similarities between parenting and inspiring and motivating in the workplace. We found limited literature on this subject.
This book is based on our professional lives. What we believe is innovative is the fact that we have integrated the principles of parenting into the workplace. This laid the foundation for the book.
For Coen, it’s his first time, while for Feike, it’s his sixth time writing a book, but it is his first time collaborating with someone.
